Old UW Shot—Diving w/Doug in Abaco

Was poking around old photos looking for a few examples of a tack-sharp image. Ryan and I have been discussing how tack-sharp is bullshit like taking photos of brick-walls to judge optical quality. I love super sharp images, but a well composed fuzzy image is going to be 1000 times more interesting than a poorly composed super sharp one.

I think tack-sharp is really only useful to discuss the optical quality of a lens and even that is fairly meaningless to those of us not making a living off our photography.

Anyways—this shot was a lot of fun. A good friend of mine Doug arranged a dive trip to Abaco, a nearly unknown island in the Bahamas (as far as I can tell) and the diving was fantastic.  I grabbed this shot of Doug inside a blue hole that is freshwater at the top and salt as you pass through the 50 ft mark or so. I was a few feet below Doug as he was having regulator problems, looked up for my buddy and grabbed this shot.

I still have the Olympus I used for this and still use it underwater occasionally. Really a fantastic camera, the C-4040Z with an f1.8 lens on it. Great for underwater!
